Sanctions and Sanction Submission

Sanctions are assigned when a student accepts responsibility or is determined to be in violation of University policy. The Hearing Body (Hearing Officer or Conduct Board) will evaluate the sanctioning principles and assign the most appropriate sanctions, as outlined in the Student Conduct Procedures. Sanctions are assigned on a case-by-case basis. Sanctions assigned will typically include a disciplinary status, educational assignments, and an academic grade penalty (for academic misconduct). If the Student lives in Carolina Housing, they may also be assigned a Housing Contract sanction.

Sanctions support student accountability and learning, centering ethical decision-making and integrity. Students will receive a written notice outlining requirements and timelines to complete sanctions.  Sanctions that require students to submit information should be submitted through the sanction submission form. Once students have completed and submitted all of their required sanctions, the case is considered resolved and they will receive notice of completion for their own records.
