Rights & Responsibilites

All students who are alleged to have violated the Honor Code are guaranteed certain basic procedural rights designed to ensure they receive a fair hearing. These rights include, but are not limited to, access to all evidence and the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. Reporting Parties are also guaranteed certain rights when participating in an Honor System process, including the right to notification and presence. For more information about students' rights and rights of the reporting party, see our Student Guide on PDF iconStudent Rights

All Carolina students are expected to refrain from lying, cheating, and stealing. The Instrument of Student Judicial Governance also sets forth additional student responsibilities, many of which are set forth in Appendix A. These responsibilities are the minimum expected of members of the Student Body; all students are expected to actively support and protect the ideals of the Honor System at Carolina.
