Committee on Student Conduct

Background

The Committee on Student Conduct (COSC), comprised of a cross-section of Carolina students, faculty, and administrators, oversees the implementation of the Honor Code and the workings of the Honor System at UNC. The Committee has 12 voting members. The Chancellor appoints three members. The Chair of the Faculty Council appoints three faculty members. The Student Body President appoints four undergraduate students members and the Graduate and Professional Student Federation President appoints two graduate/professional student members. The Undergraduate Student Attorney General, Undergraduate Honor Court Chairperson, the Graduate Student Attorney General, the Graduate Honor Court Chair person, Honor System Outreach Coordinator, and the Assistant Dean for Judicial Programs represent their respective organizations as ex-officio members.

Functions of the Committee

The responsibilities of the Committee on Student Conduct include the following:

  • To oversee the operation of the Instrument of Student Judicial Governance (Honor Code).
  • To propose changes to the Instrument appropriate to its increased effectiveness.
  • To receive proposed amendments and coordinate their study and disposition by the three constituencies.
  • To report annually and in writing to the Chancellor, Student Congress, and the Faculty Council.
